Joe Wardhaugh
- Studios: Architecture, Planning, Heritage
- Position: Research and Design Assistant
Joe joined LEP full time in January 2024 as a Research and Design Assistant having gained a Triple First Class BA (Hons) in Music (Academic Musicology) from the University of Cambridge.
Joe has worked freelance with LEP for several years and brings his intentionally wide range of experience, radical creativity, and disruptive vision for change to every project. Keen to avoid being defined by one identity, his strongest offer is his wide-ranging knowledge and intersectional, holistic worldview, combined with his genuine love for research and writing.
His academic work focussed on the interaction between the arts and philosophy, sociology, politics, history, and the broader humanities. He was particularly interested in the relationship between twentieth century aesthetics and philosophical, ethical, and sociological discussions around the role of art and music in society. His dissertation devised a spatial and textural approach to music analysis, linking music academia to architectural and masterplanning approaches to space and narrative, placing the human experience at the heart of a discipline that can become overly depersonalised and abstract.
Joe works alongside and between all the disciplines at LEP, providing research-led input to the architectural process, masterplanning and urban design projects, planning applications, and heritage reports.
