Official Opening of Folkestone College ‘Welcome Building’
We were really pleased to be invited to the official opening of the new Welcome Building at EKC Group‘s Folkestone College Campus on Monday, 22nd April 2024.
Project Architect Liam Smith and LEP Partner Matt Hayes were among those in attendance to celebrate the exceptional new facilities designed by LEP.
The building was officially ‘launched’ by local MP Damian Collins and EKC Group CEO Graham Razey OBE.
Graham Razey reflected on the achievements of the College over the past decade, and celebrated the start of a new chapter marked by the new building. He particularly drew attention to the retention of important historical buildings on the campus and their successful integration into the cutting-edge new facilities.
Our scheme includes a new college entrance ‘portico’ on Shorncliffe Road, providing a dynamic and modern, yet inviting, welcome to students and visitors.
The facilities, incorporating a significant new teaching block, help to consolidate the College’s buildings and learning spaces, as well as providing a stronger, more unified frontage and identity on Shorncliffe Road, which was previously dominated by an uninspiring car park.
The scheme also included the refurbishment and integration of existing heritage buildings on site to create striking new multi-purpose spaces.
Speaking of the scheme and the Practice’s ongoing relationship with East Kent College Group, Matt Hayes said:
“We were delighted to attend the official opening of another fantastic collaboration between LEP and EKC Group. The project demonstrates many aspects of how LEP add value to projects utilising our Heritage, Interiors, Planning and Architecture teams. We are very proud of this project, the value it adds to the Folkestone College Campus, and of the continued working relationship with this client, with whom we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the education sector. We look forward to continuing this relationship going forward and we’re excited to see how future projects with EKC Group, being the Sheppey College, Margate Digital and Dover Beacon projects, develop over the coming months and years”.
