LEP Young Professionals attend G4C London’s Launch
On Thursday evening (19th September), members of the LEP’s London studio attended G4C London’s highly anticipated launch event, graciously hosted by ALUK Studio.
G4C London (Generation for Change) is a dynamic network that brings together the next generation of professionals across the built environment. It offers a wide range of CPDs (Continuing Professional Development), social events, and invaluable networking opportunities. The group is tailored to those at the early and mid-career stages, aiming to help them build and solidify lasting relationships within the industry. Much like its Kent counterpart, G4C London comprises a committee of ambitious, emerging leaders—Sesitwa Mohlala, Jack Harley, Claire McHugh, and LEP’s very own London Architectural Lead, Sam Amer.
The launch event was centred on the theme ‘Shaping the Future Now: Young Professionals Taking the Lead’, and featured an inspiring keynote presentation by Dr. Bola Abisogun OBE. With over two decades of experience in championing disruptive and innovative approaches in construction, Dr. Abisogun has been at the forefront of promoting ‘digital twins’—a cutting-edge technology that is transforming the industry. His dedication to fostering innovation and diversity saw him awarded an OBE in the 2019 New Year’s Honours for services to Diversity and Young People in the Construction Industry. His involvement in the event not only highlighted the importance of innovation but also underscored the role young professionals must play in shaping the future of construction.
Attendees lingered well into the evening, taking full advantage of the lively networking atmosphere. New and established professionals alike used the opportunity to forge connections and strengthen relationships within the field.
Commenting on the success of the event, Sam Amer noted:
“G4C’s London launch has been long overdue, and it was fantastic to see the event sold out and so well-attended. Bola’s presentation sparked a lot of engaging discussion, and his presence was a fitting way to inaugurate this new network for young construction professionals in London.”
The importance of networking for young professionals cannot be overstated. For those starting out or at an early stage in their careers, dedicated events like these provide not only the chance to meet peers but also to connect with those with more experience who can offer mentorship and guidance. Building a solid professional network early in one’s career opens doors to opportunities that can accelerate personal and professional growth, from gaining insights into the latest industry trends to identifying potential collaborators or even future employers. Moreover, these interactions create a sense of community – seen in abundance at all G4C events to date – which is crucial in an industry as interconnected as construction.
LEP was strongly represented at the event, further underlining the company’s commitment to nurturing the future of the profession. In addition to Sam Amer, several of LEP’s young talents were present, including Kaja Hellman-Hayes, Hannah Wilson, Edward Flores-Acuna, Kyriakos Ioakim, together with our London Planning Lead, Reece Lemon. They actively participated in the networking sessions, making valuable connections and reinforcing LEP’s presence within this emerging network.
We are eagerly looking forward to the next G4C event, with more details to follow soon.
