Unanimous Approval for Significant Extension at Sheppey College
We’re pleased to announce that the new extension of EKC Group’s Sheppey College in Sheerness has received unanimous planning approval.
This landmark project, made possible by £5.48 million in Levelling Up Funding (LUF), will transform an underutilised car park site on Bridge Road, centrally located within Sheerness town.
The design vision for the extension goes beyond simply expanding the college’s physical footprint; it aims to create a vibrant educational environment that positivity contributes to its surroundings. This architectural intervention will enable EKC Group to expand its curriculum in alignment with local industry needs, while fostering a spatial experience that encourages collaboration and innovation. By addressing local workforce demands and providing enhanced training opportunities, the development will contribute to the long-term economic vitality of the town.
Conceived as a catalyst for wider regeneration, the architectural approach seeks to redefine the public realm, reinforcing placemaking efforts that extend beyond the college’s boundaries. The building’s design will serve as a civic anchor, enriching both the educational landscape and community identity.
Matt Hayes, Partner at LEP, says :
“This project is about more than just building new spaces—it’s about creating an architectural form that inspires learning and deepens community engagement. Our design is intended to become a key focal point in future regeneration efforts, establishing a strong sense of place that resonates with both students and the wider community.”
