Planning Approval for Kent County Cricket Club

With seamless collaboration between our architecture and planning teams, LEP is delighted to confirm that planning permission has been approved for improvement works at Kent County Cricket Club’s Spitfire grounds in Canterbury.

Planned works will comprise of much needed extensions to the Frank Woolley Stand and to the ‘Coaches Boxes’, together with external works which will improve the approach and entrance to the grounds.

The Spitfire Ground St Lawrence was established in 1847 and is home to one of England’s oldest and best-known cricket clubs – Kent County Cricket Club.  The site, close to Canterbury City Centre, also provides one of the regions foremost conference and events venues.

Improvements to the grounds of this ever-popular club will elevate the approach and appearance of the grounds, and will provide a welcoming entrance to fans and visitors from across the region and further afield.  Externally, a concourse will be created flanked by 12 flag poles, creating a sense of occasion when entering the site.  New hard and soft landscaping will guide visitors to the main entrance from Old Dover Road, greatly improving the current somewhat uninspiring configuration and providing a more defined entrance route.  The existing war memorial will be preserved and relocated within the landscaping design.
